Metro Van at the PNE - Climate Action Pledge Wall

Scope: The PNE × Metro Vancouver Climate Action Pledge Wall was an interactive public installation designed to encourage community participation in sustainability and climate responsibility. Visitors were invited to write personal climate-action commitments on sticky notes, transforming individual pledges into a collective visual statement. The project aimed to promote awareness, spark conversation, and empower people to take small but meaningful steps toward building a more sustainable and environmentally responsible community.
BRIEF
The brief focused on creating an inviting, easy-to-use pledge wall where visitors could write and display personal commitments to environmental responsibility using interactive sticky notes. The design prioritized clarity, inclusivity, and strong visual impact, ensuring the installation was intuitive and accessible to visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Clear prompts and an open layout encouraged participation, while the accumulation of pledges created a powerful collective display that reinforced the idea of shared responsibility and community-driven climate action.
Considerations
Structural Materials: Wood and metal were used to provide strength, stability, and durability in a high-traffic public setting.
Finish & Build Quality: Protective finishes were applied to prevent wear and maintain a clean, professional appearance throughout the installation period.
Accessibility: The height and layout of the pledge wall were designed to be accessible to visitors of all ages and abilities.
User Interaction: Clear prompts and an intuitive layout encouraged quick and meaningful participation.
Sustainability: Material choices and construction methods reflected environmentally responsible practices, aligning with the project’s climate-focused message.

Once the design was chosen we assigned a number for each sticky note colour that corresponded to a spot on the wall. As more and more sticky notes were added to the wall the image appeared.
