Project Overview

Client: Metro Vancouver

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Duration: 2024

Scope: A carnival-style interactive game designed to educate users about proper waste sorting and recycling through a fun and engaging experience.

BRIEF

The Waste Sorting Game is an interactive, carnival-style game designed to teach participants about sorting waste into the correct categories: garbage, recycling, and compost. Players toss bean bags, featuring emojis representing different waste types, into a large waste bin with three separate openings. Each opening is animated with lights and sounds that activate with successful throws, providing instant feedback. Built with durable materials and customizable graphics provided by Metro Vancouver, the game combines fun and education to raise awareness about waste management.

Considerations

  • Programming lights and sounds to ensure accurate and engaging feedback when bean bags land in the correct bins.

  • Ensuring clear, easy-to-read graphics on the bins to reinforce waste sorting categories.

  • Designing appropriately sized bean bags and openings to balance challenge and accessibility.

  • Using durable materials for bean bags and the bin structure to withstand frequent public use.

  • Integrating frosted vinyl lightboxes and ring lighting around openings to attract participants and enhance the game’s visual impact.

Concept designs & 3d Models

Our 3D modeling process combines precision and creativity, allowing us to bring complex concepts to life in a visually compelling way. Starting with detailed client insights and sketches, our team crafts each element of the activation in a digital 3D space, refining the design to ensure structural integrity and visual impact. This process enables us to preview and perfect every detail before production, ensuring the final activation captures both the intended functionality and aesthetic. The result is a meticulously designed model that serves as a blueprint for fabrication, aligning seamlessly with the project’s vision and enhancing the viewer's immersive experience.
