Metro Van at the PNE - Waste Water Sorting Game
Project Overview
Client: Metro Vancouver
Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada
Duration: 2024
Scope: A scaled-up, wall-sized interactive game designed to educate participants on proper wastewater management and what should or should not go down the drain.
BRIEF
This project involved scaling up the existing Liquid Waste game to create an impactful back wall installation for the Liquid Waste Department. The enlarged game aims to attract more attention while maintaining the same engaging mechanics: players match waste items to their appropriate destinations, such as the toilet, garbage, pharmacy, kitchen sink, recycling depot, or compost. Players place items on rotating magnetic panels and then turn them to reveal whether their choice was correct. This interactive installation teaches the public the importance of proper waste disposal in an enjoyable and memorable way.
Considerations
Ensuring the structural stability and safety of the enlarged game so it securely stands as a back wall feature without risk of collapse or injury to participants.
Maintaining clear and legible instructions and educational content, even at the increased scale, to provide a seamless user experience.
Designing the game to be accessible for individuals of all heights and abilities, including children and those in wheelchairs.
Keeping rotating panels lightweight and manageable to prevent issues with usability while scaling up the design.
Developing a modular, packable frame to simplify transport and assembly for various event locations.

Concept designs & 3d Models
Our 3D modeling process combines precision and creativity, allowing us to bring complex concepts to life in a visually compelling way. Starting with detailed client insights and sketches, our team crafts each element of the activation in a digital 3D space, refining the design to ensure structural integrity and visual impact. This process enables us to preview and perfect every detail before production, ensuring the final activation captures both the intended functionality and aesthetic. The result is a meticulously designed model that serves as a blueprint for fabrication, aligning seamlessly with the project’s vision and enhancing the viewer's immersive experience.
