Project Overview

Client: Metro Vancouver

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Duration: 2024

Scope: A gamified scavenger hunt using QR codes to encourage public engagement with Metro Vancouver’s event space at the PNE, offering an innovative solution for increasing visitor interaction and data collection.

BRIEF

The QR Code Scavenger Hunt Game was designed to ensure equal visibility for all nine departments within Metro Vancouver during their event at the PNE. Visitors were invited to explore the space and locate QR codes associated with each department. Scanning a code prompted them to answer an educational question related to the department. Correct answers earned participants entries into a prize draw to win an electric bike, with additional entries awarded for completing the full scavenger hunt. This incentive-driven approach motivated visitors to interact with every part of the event space while learning about Metro Vancouver’s initiatives.

Considerations

  • Ensuring the QR code placement was intuitive and distributed evenly throughout the event space to encourage full exploration.

  • Designing an accessible and user-friendly interface for scanning and answering questions.

  • Creating a real-time reporting platform to provide up-to-date insights on visitor engagement and answer accuracy.

  • Collecting data ethically while ensuring privacy compliance for email capture and participant tracking.

  • Building a scalable system that could be easily customized for future events, regardless of industry or size.

The Result

Print form

To ensure the QR Code Scavenger Hunt Game was accessible to all participants, we designed a printed form as an alternative to the digital experience. The form included the same questions tied to the QR codes, allowing visitors who preferred or required a non-digital option to engage with the scavenger hunt.

Live reporting

The game also included real-time reporting, enabling the client to track QR scans, correct and incorrect answers, and collect email addresses for future outreach. The software’s adaptability opens opportunities for use at other events, creating a dynamic way to enhance attendee engagement.
