Project Overview

Client: Metro Vancouver

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Duration: 2024

Scope: An interactive, informative pillar designed to educate the public on affordable housing options provided by Metro Vancouver, with a gamified element to encourage exploration.

BRIEF

The Metro Vancouver Housing Pillar is an educational installation aimed at raising awareness about affordable housing options through an interactive experience. Featuring multiple flaps around a large pillar, each flap reveals information about Metro Vancouver’s housing initiatives. To add an element of fun and engagement, the installation includes a game where participants are encouraged to “Find Marbles the Cat,” hidden under one of the flaps. This simple analog setup not only educates visitors but also promotes exploration and interaction. Though the pillar appears substantial, it’s designed to break down into four easy-to-transport pieces and comes with a custom dolly, allowing for seamless transport and setup at different venues.

Considerations

  • Ensuring durable and easy-to-open flaps that can withstand high public interaction.

  • Designing the structure for easy breakdown and transport, with a custom dolly for Metro Vancouver’s van.

  • Using clear, engaging content under each flap to maximize educational impact.

  • Making the “Find Marbles the Cat” game straightforward and accessible to encourage participation across all age groups.

  • Maintaining visual appeal while aligning with Metro Vancouver’s housing messaging.

Process

Concept designs & 3d Models

Our 3D modeling process combines precision and creativity, allowing us to bring complex concepts to life in a visually compelling way. Starting with detailed client insights and sketches, our team crafts each element of the activation in a digital 3D space, refining the design to ensure structural integrity and visual impact. This process enables us to preview and perfect every detail before production, ensuring the final activation captures both the intended functionality and aesthetic. The result is a meticulously designed model that serves as a blueprint for fabrication, aligning seamlessly with the project’s vision and enhancing the viewer's immersive experience.
