Metro Van at the PNE - Journey of liquid waste
Project Overview
Client: Metro Vancouver
Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada
Duration: 2024
Scope: A visually engaging educational installation illustrating the journey of liquid waste from collection to treatment, combining physical models with a dynamic animation.
BRIEF
This activation was designed to educate the public about proper liquid waste management by showcasing its journey in an engaging and dynamic way. The installation features a detailed cut-section model paired with a TV screen that displays animated visuals behind the 3D model. This combination brings the process of liquid waste treatment to life. Small props, such as trees and people, add depth and context to the display, enhancing its realism. The frosted acrylic layers and transparent sections are designed to allow light and animation to shine through, creating an immersive and visually captivating experience. Portable, easy to set up, and built for durability, this activation is designed to be a versatile educational tool that can be used at multiple events over several years.
Considerations
Employing sustainable and environmentally friendly materials for the build.
Ensuring a minimum lifespan of three years under regular use.
Designing for portability, with components that fit into a box cube truck with a lifting tailgate.
Powering all electrical components, including the TV, via standard 110v outlets.
Enhancing the layered aesthetic with frosted acrylic to seamlessly blend physical and animated elements.

Process
Concept designs & 3d Models
Our 3D modeling process combines precision and creativity, allowing us to bring complex concepts to life in a visually compelling way. Starting with detailed client insights and sketches, our team crafts each element of the activation in a digital 3D space, refining the design to ensure structural integrity and visual impact. This process enables us to preview and perfect every detail before production, ensuring the final activation captures both the intended functionality and aesthetic. The result is a meticulously designed model that serves as a blueprint for fabrication, aligning seamlessly with the project’s vision and enhancing the viewer's immersive experience.
