Project Overview

Client: Metro Vancouver

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Duration: 2024

Scope: An Interactive educational installation illustrating the wastewater treatment journey, showing how waste is converted into useful resources like fertilizer and renewable natural gas.

BRIEF

The Waste Resource Recovery game offers a hands-on, interactive experience that educates users about wastewater treatment. It highlights that waste doesn’t simply vanish after flushing. Participants design their own treatment path by arranging magnetic pipes, filters, and pumps, creating a custom route for wooden "poop" balls to travel. As users test their pathways, they gain insight into the infrastructure of wastewater treatment and how waste is transformed into valuable resources.

Considerations

  • Using child-safe, durable materials, as the installation is aimed at all ages, especially children.

  • Ensuring magnets are strong enough to keep pipes in place but easy for children to move.

  • Designing a modular, easily transportable frame to allow for repeated setup and takedown at various locations.

  • Balancing simplicity and functionality to effectively convey the complex process of waste treatment in an accessible way.

Process

Concept designs & 3d Models

Our 3D modeling process combines precision and creativity, allowing us to bring complex concepts to life in a visually compelling way. Starting with detailed client insights and sketches, our team crafts each element of the activation in a digital 3D space, refining the design to ensure structural integrity and visual impact. This process enables us to preview and perfect every detail before production, ensuring the final activation captures both the intended functionality and aesthetic. The result is a meticulously designed model that serves as a blueprint for fabrication, aligning seamlessly with the project’s vision and enhancing the viewer's immersive experience.
